not so much A as B: A라기 보다는 B (=not A so much as B= B rather than A = more B than A=less A than B)

생성과정: A as much as B : B만큼이나 많은 A > not A as much as B: B만큼 A가 많지는 않아=A라기 보다는 B

+A as 형/부 A as B <<  A 위치는 상관없음

+원리를 생각하면 뜻은 저절로 생각하게 됨.

ex. He is not so much a doctor as a healer. 그는 의사라기보다는 치료술사이다. 

    He does not love me so much as likes me. 그는 나를 사랑한다기 보다는 좋아한다.

    He learns from his opponents rather than from his fervent supporters. 그는 열렬한 지지자들로부터 보다는 자기의 적수로부터 배우는 편이다(rather than 뒤에서 from을 빼면 안됨. 병렬을 바로 알아채기 위해)

without so much as -ing ~조차 하지 않고서

생성원리: without Ving ~하지 않고서 > without so much as -ing ~하는 것 만큼도 없이= ~조차 하지 않고서

ex. He went back home without so much as saying goodbye. 그는 작별인사도 하지 않고서 집으로 돌아갔다

so 형/부 as to V.R ~할 정도로 충분히 ~하다

ex. He was so kind as to let me in and give his bed for bed for the night. (=He was kind enough to let me in and give his bed for bed for the night.) 그는 나를 들어오게 하고 그날 밤 자기의 침대를 내주었을 정도로 친절했다

so 형/부 as to= 형/부 enough to

as soon as ~하자마자

ex. As soon as human babies are born, they have to clear their respiratory passage. 인간의 아이들은 태어나자마자 기도를 뚫어야 한다.

as long as= so long as ~하는 한(조건,한도), ~만큼 긴, 길게

as far as=so far as ~하는 한(정도,범주), ~만큼 멀리

ex. As long as you are invlved, I can't look it away. 당신이 연루된 한은 나는 그것을 외면할 수 없다.(조건)

    As far as I am concerned, I don't object to the plan. 나로써는 그 계획에 반대하지 않는다.(범주, 정도)

    This string is as long as that.(긴)

    I will stay for as long as you want(오랜)

    My school is as far away from my house as from your house.(먼)

-어떻게 해석되는 지는 문맥보고 판단함

원급 비교에서 as 접속사 이하의 생략

as 형/부( as S+V)날릴 수 있음.(문장 속에서 충분히 짐작 가능할 경우)

ex. He is rich and his brother is as rich(as he).

    He is happy but I'm not as happy.(그와 비교한 행복의 정도)

    I like classical music but I don't like pop music as much. 나는 고전 음악을 좋아한다. 하지만 팝을 그만큼 좋아하지는 않는다.

배수사와 원급 비교

분수,배수 as   (as S+V) 배수사는 부사의 의미인 as 앞에 놓인다.

ex. He is twice as heavy as I am. 그는 나의 두배만큼 무겁다

    He has 3 times as many books as I have. 그는 나의 3배만큼 많은 책을 가지고 있다.

비교급 비교

비교급 비교: <, > ~보다 더, ~보다 덜

1. 형/부 + er (단모+단자+단자 + er, e로 끝나있으면 r만, happy>happier)

2. more + 형,부(3음절 이상, 형용사형 어미, 분사, 보어로만 사용되는 형용사, 절대적X 주로임.) 예외) more wrong more right 등

3. good-better-best, well-better-best, many-more-most, most-more-most(more은 만만하지 않다)

4. ill-worse-worst, bad-worse-worst, far-farther, further-farthest, furthest (farther 거리상, further 정도상)

5. late-later-latest(시간), late-latter-last(순서), little-less-least, few-fewer-fewest, old-older-oldest, old-elder-eldest

생성원리

1. S+V~. S+V. 에 than 전치사를 붙여 문장을 하나로 붙여준다.

2. 형용사나 부사를 er처리 하거나 more, less를 붙인다.

3. 뒤에 형, 부를 생략한다.

4. 뒤에 문장 중복된 거 생략한다.

ex. He has more friends than I have.=He has more friends than I.

    How to spend money is more important than how to earn it is.=How to spend money is more important than how to earn it.

    He is more dependent on you than he is on me.=He is more dependent on you than on me.

    It is safer to travel now than it is to travel in the night.=It is safer to travel now than in the night

or과 ior어미의 절대 비교급

superior우월한<->inferior 열등한, senior손 위의<->junior손 아래의, major<->minor, 

anterior이전의<->posterior, 이후의, interior내부의, prior 순서나 권위가 더 앞서있는

-비교급으로만 어울림

-than보다 to와 잘 어울림(전치사)

ex. He is senior to me= He is older than I.

비교급을 강조하는 부사

매우, 더X, 훨씬 더 O

영어도 똑같아 비교급에선 매우말고 훨씬을 쓴다.

매우: very, pretty, quite

훨씬: a lot, far, even, still, much, by far

ex. He is far superior to me in mathematics. 그는 수학에서 나보다 훨씬 우수하다(superior등도 훨씬으로 쓰임)

+He is more superior to me in math(이 문장은 틀림. 이미 superior이 비교의 의미가 있으므로 more 을 안 쓴다.)

음절구별법: 입모양이 몇 번 바뀌는가?
