If all mankind minus one were of an opinion, and only one person were of the contrary  opinion,

mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had power, would be

justified in silencing mankind. 

1)Were an opinion a personal possession of no value except to the owner, 2)if to be obstructed in the

employment of it /were simply a private junury, the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an

첫번째 문장과 연결이 되어있는 문장인데요  두번째 문장에서 1)Were 이 왜 도치가 된건지 모르겠고,뒤에 있는 if절과 연관해서 구조가 보이지를 않습니다 

2)번 구문이 가정법이 맞는것인지요??

 선생님 정말 죄송한데요 두번째 문장 해석 한 번 해주시면 안되나요?

제가 해석을 여러번 해보고 또 해 봤는데 데강 무슨 말인지는 알겠는데 명쾌하게 떨어지질 않고 확신이 서지를 않습니다
