Formiminoglutamic acid
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Formiminoglutamic acid (FIGLU) is an intermediate in the metabolism of histidine.
The "FIGLU" test is used to identify deficiency of vitamin B12 or folate deficiency or liver disease.

Histidine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Histidine (abbreviated as His or H) is an α-amino acid with an imidazole functional group. It is one of the 22 proteinogenic amino acids.
Its codons are CAU and CAC. Histidine was first isolated by German physician Albrecht Kossel in 1896. Histidine is an essential amino
acid in humans and other mammals. It was initially thought that it was only essential for infants, but longer-term studies established
that it is also essential for adult humans.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_aminobutyric_acid
GABA gamma aminobutyric acid.
GABA is the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. It plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability
throughout the nervous system. In humans, GABA is also directly responsible for the regulation of muscle tone.
Although chemically it is an amino acid, GABA is rarely referred to as such in the scientific or medical communities, because the term
"amino acid," used without a qualifier, conventionally refers to the alpha amino acids, which GABA is not, nor is it ever incorporated into
a protein.
In spastic diplegia in humans, GABA absorption becomes impaired by nerves damaged from the condition's upper motor neuron lesion,
which leads to hypertonia of the muscles signaled by those nerves that can no longer absorb GABA.

MCV mean corpuscular volume
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The mean corpuscular volume, or "mean cell volume" (MCV), is a measure of the average red blood cell size that is reported as part of
a standard complete blood count. The MCV is calculated by dividing the total volume of packed red blood cells (also known as
hematocrit) by the total number of red blood cells. The resulting number is then multiplied by 10. The red blood cells get packed
together when they are spun around at high speeds in a device called a centrifuge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levomefolic_acid
Me-THF methyltetrahydrofolate
Levomefolic acid (INN) (also known as 5-MTHF and l-methylfolate and sold under the brand names Metafolin and Deplin) is the natural,
active form of folic acid used at the cellular level for DNA reproduction, the cysteine cycle and the regulation of homocysteine among
other functions. The un-methylated form, folic acid (vitamin B9), is a synthetic form of folate found in nutritional supplements. Synthetic
folic acid is metabolized in the body into levomefolic acid.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylenetetrahydrofolate_reductase
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the MTHFR gene.
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase catalyzes the conversion of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, a
cosubstrate for homocysteine remethylation to methionine. Genetic variation in this gene influences susceptibility to occlusive vascular
disease, neural tube defects, colon cancer and acute leukemia, and mutations in this gene are associated with
methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase deficiency.
