접속사 관련 질문입니다

여기서 but이 제 생각에는 등위접속사 인것 같은데 but이 무엇과 무엇을 연결하는지 잘 모르겠습니다.

2. I had done well throughout the year, and felt that I had learned a reasonable amount of new information, but that certainly didn't mean that I understood Spanish.   이라는 문장입니다.

여기서 첫문장  and가 (felt that I had 부터 information)와( had done 부터 the year)을 연결하는 것인가요? 아님 (done 부터 the year)을 연결하는 것인가요?또한 접속사 and와 but 앞에 콤마가 있는데 꼭 써야하는 것인가요???

3. Recent polls show that a large majority of people want genetically modified food labeled. 에서  a large majority of도 a large number of+복수명사 형태라서 s를 붙이지 않는 건가요??
