I dined with the man 이라는 문장에서 the man을 꾸며주려고 할때 the man (whom) i dined with= te man with whom i dined가 됩니다 그런데i는 dined와 짝이고 with는 the man이랑 짝인데 전치사인 with가 앞에 오지않으면 whom의 짝이 없다고 했는데 무슨 말인지 이해가 가지 않습니다

그러니까 관계사절을 만들때 the man I dined 만으로는 성립되지 않는다는 말이었어요.. the man with whom I dined 혹은 the man I dined with 이렇게 둘 중 하나를 채택해야 한다는 의미입니다.. ^^
