타동사 + A + 전치사 + B

타동사의 목적어와 전치사의 목적어를 함께 쓰는 경우인데 타동사의 목적어만으로 의미전달이 불완전하다고 여겨서 그 뒤에 전치사의 목적어를 관용적으로 동반시키는 동사들이다. 전치사는 타동사의 의미에 따라 달라진다.

1. 제거,강탈의 의미를 갖는 동사 : 동사 A +　of + B

(1) clear A +　of + B : A에게서 B를 치우다

I cleared my table of all the utensils.

Clear the ground of weeds before you plant.

He cleared playground of trash[rubbish]

He cleared his backyard[frontyard] of snow

(2) rob[deprive, rid, strip] A +　of + B : A에게서 B를 빼앗다

(3) relieve A of B(sth) A에게서 B을 덜어주다

Let me relieve you of some of your bags.

(4) cure A of B : A에게서] B을 치료해서 없애다

The doctor cure me of lung cancer

(5) bereave A +　of + B : A에게서 B를 죽음으로 빼앗다

She was bereaved of her father when young

His death bereaved her of all her hope.

2.통지의 의미를 갖는 동사 : 동사 A +　of + B

(1) remind a of b : a에게 b을 상기시키다

The scene reminded me of my good old days

(2) convince a of b　:　 a에게 b을 확신시키다

(3) inform a of b : a에게 b을 알리다

(4) warn a of b : a에게 b를 경고하다

(5) assure a of b : a에게 b를 확신시키다

(6) notify a of b : a에게 b를 통고하다

They notified us of the delay

3. 금지, 방해동사 : 동사 a from b

(1) discourage a from b : a를 b하지 못하게 낙담시키다

(2) dissuade a from b : a를 b하지 못하게 말리다

(3) ban[bar] a from b : a를 b에게서 금지하다

Coaches should bar the players from drinking alcohol before a big match

(5) hinder A from B : A 를 B하지 못하게 방해하다

(6) stop[keep,prevent,prohibit,inhibit,deter,forbid] A from B : A 를 B하지 못하게 막다 forbid는 목적어 to부정사도 됨

He forbade them from mentioning the subject again

4.칭찬, 비난,감사, 사과동사 + A for B

(1) praise A for B : B에 대해서 A를 칭찬하다

(2) criticize A for B : B에 대해서 A를 비판하다,

(3) blame A for B : B에 대해 A을 탓하다

The police blamed a dropped cigarette for the fore

(4) excuse[forgive] A for B : B에 대해서 A를 용서하다

I'll never forgive her what she has done to me

(5) thank A for B A에게 B에 대해서 감사하다

5.수여, 공급동사 A with B

(1) supply[provide, present, furnish] : A with B : A에게 B를 제공하다

(2) endow A with B : A에게 B를 부여하다

He has the ablity to endow the people he write of with flesh and blood

(3) equip A with B : A에게 B을 설치하다

They must equip all the rooms in that building with humidifiers

(4) entrust A with B : A에게 B을 맡기다

(5) replace A with B : A을 B으로 교체하다

6. 언질의 내용과 대상을 분리해서 받는 동사+ A to B

(1) explain A to B : B에게 A를 설명하다

(2) describe A to B : B에게 A를 묘사하다

(3) say A to B : B에게 A를 말하다

(4) suggest A to B : B에게 A를 제안하다

(5) propose A to B : B에게 A를 제안하다

(6) announce A to B : B에게 A를 발표하다

(7) introduce A to B : B에게 A를 소개하다

Let me introduce myself to you guys

(8) represent A to B : B에게 A를 제기하다

We must represent our concerns to the city council

(9) betray A to B : B에게 A를 넘겨주다
