  ● B of A방식

주로 의인화되기 힘든 무생물의 소유격 표현할 때 사용, 엄밀히 말하면 무생물은 소유 할수 없는 존재이므로 소유라는 개념을 적용시킬 수없고 귀속의 의미가 적합하다. 또한 반드시 귀속의 의미로만 해석되지 않는 경우가 있다 이 형태는 the를 써서 b를 한정시킨다. 다른 한정사인 a, an, this these, that, those, some, any, no, such, each, every등을 가능하다

무생물의 경우 b of a형태가 되어서 소유격을 표현하면 보통 b가 a의 일부로서 귀속된다. 이때는 AB형태의 복합명사로 쓰는 것이 일부 가능하다

단, 수식을 받는 경우는 b of a가 바람직하다

the walls of the fortress = the fortress walls

the roof of the temple = the temple roof

The color of your eyes is a little bit different from your mother's

: The color of your eyes를 복합명사인 Your eye color로 쓸 수 있다.

복합명사에서 앞 명사는 단수형을 쓴다.

The girls ran about, obeying the directions of a woman with a whsitle. with a whistle이 woman을 수식하므로 b of a 가 바람직

그 소녀들은 호루라기를 가진 여자의 지시에 순응하면서 뛰어 다녔다.

관계사절이 a coule 수식하므로 b of a 가 바람직

the wings of a glider = a glider's wing도 가능(여기서 주의할 점은 B명사 앞에 붙은 the는 A‘s 방식으로 전환할 때 사라진다

소유격 +　a, an, this these, that, those, some, any, no, such, each, every등 + 명사 (X)

a, an, this these, that, those, some, any, no, such, each, every + 소유격+명사(x)

한정사 + 명사 + of + 소유대명사 a frined of mine

● 명사의 성(gender)

무생물도 의인화 하여 남성형대명사(he)와 여성형 대명사(she)로 받을 수 있다

⓵ 여성의인화

fortune, fate, peace, America, Boston, 탈것(차, 비행기, 배등 : aircraft, the Titanic), moon 등

⓶ 남성의인화

전쟁, 싸움(battle), sun, power, thunder, lightening, ocean, death, grave, winter등

남성어(masculine) / 여성어(feminine)

여성형 접이사 -ess를 붙이지 않는 경우, he-goat, she-goat등으로 표현하거나 male, female을 수식하여 쓴다(ex : male goat, female goat)
