   동사s: 주어가 3인칭 단수

-어미에 원래 s가 있는 단수취급 명사

단어뒤에 원래 s가 붙어 있는 주어는 복수를 의미하는 것이 아니므로 조심해야 한다

특히 학문을 의미하는 단어들은 모두 단수지만 끝이 s이다

-쌍으로 된 물건

완성된 물건 자체는 하나지만, 두 부품의 대칭 또는 쌍을 중시하여 복수 취급한다

-many + 복수명사 = many + a, an + 단수명사

의미는 같지만 각각 복수와 단수로 취급하므로 동사와 일치 시켜야 한다

-a number of + 복수 가산명사 + 복수 V 상당히 많은 숫자의~ 들

-the number of + 복수 가산명사 + 단수 V ~들의

-시간, 거리, 가격 무게

위의 복수명사는 그 전체를 한 덩어리로 보는 의미이면 단수이다

Twenty miles is a long distance to walk.

-neither of + 두개을 의미하면 복수명사 + 단수 동사

-both of + 두개을 의미하는 복수명사 + 복수 동사

-one of + 복수명사 + 단수 동사 (~들 중의 하나)

-one of + 불가산명사 + 단수 동사 (~의 한 종류)

-집합 단수명사의 단수, 복수

집합체 자체를 의미하면 단수, 각 구성원들의 행위나 상태를 의미하면 복수 취급
