비교급을 이용한 관용표현

비교급 + than any other + 단수명사: 다른 무엇보다 더 -하다

=비교급 + than all the other 복수 명사

=비교급 + than +anything / anyone + else

He is more famous than any dramatist.

=He is more famous than all the other dramatist.

=He is more famous than any dramatist else.

Hercules looked more formidable than any other warrior.

Hercules looked more formidable than all the other warriors.

Hercules looked more formidable than any warrior else.

*A is no more B than C is D = A is not B any more than C is D.

A bat is no more a bird than a horse is a bird.

You are given no more a right  to betray your fatherland than you can

abandon your own father and mother.

A is no less B than C is D = A is not B any less than C is D.

A가 B인 것은 C가 D인것과 마찬가지이다.

He is no less innocent than you are (innocent)

*No A more B than C: C만큼 그토록 B한 A는 없다.

 No A so B as C

No other scientist is more disabled than Hawking

the 비교급 + because / for : 어떤 이유로 더-하다. -때문에 더 -하다

두개를 비교하는것이 아니라 어떤 이유로 인하여 더-하다 라는 표현한다.

비교급 앞에 정관사 the 를 붙이며 강조하려면 all the 비교급,so much the 비교급

the 비교급 because S + V

I like him all the more because he is not perfect.

I like him all the more for his shortcomings

-none the less for : -에도 불구하고 덜하지 않다

-none the better for: -에도 불구하고 더 좋지않다

I love her none the less for her laziness.

           = never the less

-much more = still more : 더욱이 - : 긍정문에서 사용

-much less = still less : 더욱이 - : 부정문에서 사용

비교급을 강조하는 부사

very를 사용하지 않고 far, still, much, a lot 사용

He looks even younger than he really is

the  + 비교급 + of the two, of A and B : 둘중에서 더 -하다

He is the taller of two twinss.

비교급에서 than 이하의 생략

He is rich but his father is richer (than he is).

The play was very impressive when I read the synopsis but it was

much more impressive on stage (than when I read the synopsis).

A rather than B = rather A than B : A라기 보다는 B

He is rather an actor than a movie star.

I learn from my opponents rather than from my fervent supporters.

A other than B = other A than B : B를 제외한 다른 A

최상급 비교

the  -est

      most + 원급             보어              of all

      least + 원급             수식어           in 그룹

the + 형용사의 최상급 + of all구성원 : 모든 구성원 중에서 가정-하다

the + 형용사의 최상급 + in + 집단: -에서 가장 -하다

-정관서 the의 제거

동일물 내에서 조건 비교일 경우에는 최상이라도 정관사 the 쓰지 않는다

He looks the saddest.

He looks saddest when he is reminded of his parents.

The lake is the deepest.

The lakeis deepest at this point.
